The Nursery Revisited

A

greenhouse throve here
before flame engulfed it.

Coneflowers choke its gravel walks.
Bristling stems, bristling seed-heads.

Beds were tended,
raised and mulch-filled.
Watch your step!

Mint and henbit clothe pratfalls,
berried poke and jostling jewelweed engulf
potted stems that died without care.

Hummers whirr now
through jewelweed as tasty

as before passionflower vine
engulfed the crabapple trees.
